Upper Cervical Care
What Is Upper Cervical Chiropractic?
Upper Cervical Chiropractic is a focused approach to chiropractic care that centers on the top two bones of the neck: the atlas and axis.
These two vertebrae sit just beneath the skull and play an important role in the way the head and neck move, stabilize, and interact with the rest of the spine.
In our office, this area is the foundation of our clinical work.
Why the Upper Cervical Spine Matters
The upper cervical spine is a unique region of the body.
It supports the weight of the head, allows a large amount of rotational movement, and sits in close relationship with the brainstem, spinal cord, joints, muscles, and other neurological structures.
Because of that, dysfunction in this area can influence the way the rest of the body moves and adapts.
That does not mean every health problem starts in the neck.
It does mean the upper cervical spine is an important place to evaluate when someone is dealing with persistent symptoms, recurring tension, or a body that does not seem to be recovering well.
What Makes This Different From General Chiropractic?
The biggest difference is precision.
Rather than adjusting multiple areas of the spine based primarily on where someone feels discomfort, Upper Cervical Chiropractic focuses on determining whether a specific correction is needed at the top of the neck.
At Axia, we use a combination of physical examination, specialized cervical X-rays, and computerized infrared paraspinal thermography to help understand the patterns of the body and guide decisions.
The goal is not to over-treat.
It is to adjust as specifically as possible and only when the findings support it.
Why We Use Specialized X-Rays
Not every spine moves or compensates in the same way.
Lateral Flexion X-rays help us understand the structure and biomechanics of the upper cervical spine so that care can be tailored to the individual rather than based on a general approach.
This allows us to make a more precise correction and gives us a clearer clinical picture before care begins.
Why We Measure Before We Adjust
One of the core principles of our approach is that an adjustment is not automatic.
We use computerized infrared thermography to look for physiological patterns along the spine and compare findings over time.
On some visits, the findings may suggest that your body is maintaining its correction well.
When that happens, the best decision may be to leave it alone.
When an adjustment is needed, we make the correction, allow the body time to respond, and reassess when appropriate.
We believe care should be guided by evidence. Fewer adjustments as care progresses is something we consider a good sign.
The Goal Is Longevity
The goal of this work is not adjusting the same area over and over.
The goal is to help create a more stable foundation and environment for health, so the body can adapt and function more effectively over time.
We know the decisions we make today will impact you for years to come.
Who May Benefit From an Upper Cervical Evaluation?
People come to us for many different reasons.
Some are dealing with migraines, vertigo, neck pain, TMJ tension, or other persistent symptoms. Others are simply looking for a more precise, measured approach to chiropractic care.
The purpose of the evaluation is not to assume that Upper Cervical Chiropractic is the answer.
It is to determine whether care is a good fit.
A Thoughtful Approach
At Axia Chiropractic, our philosophy is simple:
Your health is worth the time.
Upper Cervical Chiropractic is not about doing more. Its about respecting the healing process in the body and guiding it back to balance.
Upward in Health. Forward in Life.
